Louis Mottiat, Winner of 8 Tour de France Stages

$29.95

Louis Mottiat raced as a professional from 1912 to 1925. Mottiat was a rider most comfortable in difficult races requiring endurance.

In his debut year, 1912, he won Stage 10 of the Tour de France. In his second year as a pro, he won Bordeaux-Paris and took second in Milan-San Remo, Paris-Roubaix, and Paris-Tours.  In 1914, he won the Paris-Brussels, the overall Tour of Belgium, and four stages.

The First World War forced all riders of the era to put racing on hold. After the War, Mottiat started winning races again. In 1920, at the age of 31, he won the Tour of Belgium, Criterium des As, and a stage of the Tour de France. 1921 brought victory in Leige-Bastongne-Leige, Paris-Brest-Paris, Marche-en-Famenne, and four Tour de France stage wins. 1922 saw Mottait triumph again in Liège-Bastogne-Liège. In 1924, he saw a victory in Paris-Tours, a Tour de France Stage win, and a Tour Top 20 finish. In 1925, his last year as a pro, he won Stage three of the Tour de France and finished 31st overall.

He is one of the greatest Walloon cycling champions.
