Lotto Cycling Team
Lotto, UCI code LOT, is a Belgian professional cycling team at UCI ProTeam level sponsored by the Belgian National Lottery. The same organization also sponsors the women’s squad, Lotto Ladies.
Lotto has a long history in cycling. The company began sponsoring in 1984 with Tönissteiner–Lotto–Mavic–Pecotex, and in 1985 became the prime sponsor of a team bearing only its name. Walter Godefroot and Patrick Lefevere were early directeurs sportifs. A merger of Lotto–Adecco and Domo–Farm Frites created Lotto–Domo in 2003. Omega Pharma was a co-sponsor of Quick-Step–Davitamon in 2003 and 2004, then became title sponsor of the Lotto team in 2005 under the Davitamon brand, switched to Predictor in 2007, and to Silence in 2008. From 2010 the team raced as Omega Pharma–Lotto, after which Omega Pharma moved its support to Quick-Step for 2012. Belisol joined as co-sponsor in 2012. On the final day of the 2014 Tour de France the team announced a six season deal with Soudal, later extended in 2019, and the name became Lotto–Soudal. Lotto continues to sponsor the men’s team, the women’s team, and the under-23 team. Since 2016 the squad has raced one event each season in a special grey Lotto–Fix ALL kit to highlight a Soudal brand. The current name is Lotto–Dstny.
Lotto was part of the UCI WorldTour from 2009 through 2022. After finishing nineteenth in the 2020 to 2022 qualifying cycle, the team was relegated to UCI ProTeam status for 2023 to 2025. It finished first in the 2022 one year points list among non WorldTour teams, securing wildcards for all 2023 WorldTour races.
The team structure in recent seasons has included general managers Marc Sergeant and Bill Olivier, with sports directors such as Herman Frison, Jean-Pierre Heynderickx, Bart Leysen, Marc Wauters, Mario Aerts, Dirk Demol, and Michiel Elijzen. In 2018 Tosh Van der Sande was briefly suspended after declaring the wrong nasal spray brand at the Six Days of Ghent, then was cleared by the UCI.
