Cycles Clement c. 1890’s

$240.00

This poster is an original first printing, not a reproduction.

In the 1890’s Clement was the leading bicycle brand in France and had 150 employees building bicycles in its factory in Paris at 20 Rue Brunel.  Founded by Adolphe Clement, the company always combined advertising and marketing flair with top-notch products.

This poster, by Henri, is an excellent example of Clement’s flair for advertising using distinctive fonts and beautiful artwork use to sell their products.

This poster has been archivally and professionally linen backed.  Virtually all original vintage posters of this era were viewed as temporary advertising and were printed on very thin paper. While expensive, linen backing is a conservation method used to mount, stabilize, preserve and protect vintage posters so they can be displayed or framed without compromising value. We take great care to insure the posters in our collection are linen backed by a very competent professional in France who uses acid-free materials and executes a process that is entirely reversible.
