Walter Godefroot, Signed Belgian National Champion Jersey

$320.00

This vintage jersey has been personally signed by Walter Godefroot. We received it directly from Walter just shy of 22 years ago as part of a larger acquisition of Telekom memorabilia. At the time, Walter told us he was not certain as to the specific year of the jersey. While we suspect it may be a podium jersey, it could also have been a jersey he used for criteriums as it does show evidence of wear.

Walter Godefroot, fondly known as “The Bulldog of Flanders”  raced as a professional from 1965 to 1979 and managed Team Telecom and later the Astana Team from 1991-2007.

Godefroot was a specialist in one-day Classics, winning Leige-Bastonge-Leige (1967), Paris-Roubaix (1969), and the Tour of Flanders (1968, 1978). Besides winning the green jersey at the 1970 Tour de France, Godefroot was the first to win the final stage on the Champs-Élysées stage in the Tour de France.  Godefroot was the Belgium National Road Race Champion in 1965 and won a bronze medal in the Men’s Road Race at the 1964 Summer Olympics.
