Like many early cyclists, Edouard Nieuport was also an aviation pioneer. After a short but successful cycling career, he and his brother Charles founded Nieuport-Duplex in 1902 building engines for cars, motorbikes, and airplanes. By 1908 the Nieuport Brothers were designing and building aircraft. Sadly, Edouard was killed in an airplane crash in 1911.
