1973 Peace Race, Souvenir Pin

$14.95

This pin is a beauty, with wonderfully bright colors and a lovely whimsical design.

One of the most wonderful races to emerge after WWII was unquestionably the Peace Race, held in the Eastern Bloc states of Czechoslovakia, East Germany, and Poland. First organized in 1948 as a way to relieve tension between the Central European countries, this stage race attracted the best amateur riders of the day. Drawing millions of spectators to the roadside each day, the race was a showcase for the outstanding abilities of the Eastern Bloc riders. The blue jersey with the white dove was the symbol of the team leading the race. The race was last held in 2006.
