The 1959 Vuelta a España, held from April 24 to May 10, marked the 14th edition of the race. Spanning 17 stages and covering a total of 3,048 kilometers, the event commenced in Madrid and concluded in Bilbao. Spanish cyclist Antonio Suárez, representing the Licor 43 team, clinched the overall victory with a total time of 84 hours, 36 minutes, and 20 seconds. He finished 1 minute and 6 seconds ahead of compatriot José Segú (Kas team), while Belgian rider Rik Van Looy (Faema–Guerra) secured third place, trailing by 7 minutes.

Suárez’s triumph was underscored by his dominance in the mountains classification, where he amassed 56 points, narrowly edging out Richard Van Genechten. Van Looy, known for his sprinting prowess, won the points classification with 148 points. Notably, the legendary Italian cyclist Fausto Coppi made his sole Vuelta appearance in this edition. Out of 90 starters, only 41 riders completed the grueling race, highlighting its challenging nature.
