Tour de France, 1966 Race Credential

$65.00

A fantastic race credential from the 1966 Tour de France.  Wonderfully bright colors featuring the name and photo of the pass holder. By the 1960s the Tour was having problems with unscrupulous folks forging race credentials so they could get closer access to the action. Rather than a simple cardboard tag or armband, this credential was made from die-cut pliable plastic, numbered, and included a photo of the credentialed person. Quaint by today’s standard, this no doubt at least slowed down the bad guys at the time.

The Tour de France was founded in 1903 as a scheme to increase sales for the newspaper L’Auto. As one of the three Grand Tours of the cycling season, the race typically held in July consists of 21 Stages on France’s beautiful roads.
