Description
History of the Grand-bi Rudge
In 1870, while the French bicycle industry was suffering the effects of the war with Germany, the big bicycle took off in England. The search for speed and lightness pushes manufacturers to lighten the structure of the cycle while increasing the diameter of the front driving wheel to obtain greater development. However, the lack of safety linked to its driving reserves the use of the big-bi for athletes and acrobats. Unable to be generalized, this elegant cycle gradually faded from 1890 in front of its most serious competitor, the bicycle. The model on display takes its name from cycle manufacturer Daniel Rudge, inventor of a ball bearing system patented in 1878 which equipped the cycles of the first races of French champion Charles Terront.
