Roger Riviére, La Crémaille Qunicaillerie, Serie: Coureurs Cyclistes

$19.95

La Crémaille was a hardware store in Auray, France, that issued these charming collectible cards.

This card features Roger Riviére, winner of 5 Tour de France Stages and 3 Vuelta Stages.

A gifted time trialist and versatile road rider, Rivière was also a three-time world pursuit champion on the track. His promising career was cut short by a catastrophic injury. Considered a strong contender for victory in the 1960 Tour de France, Rivière crashed while descending the Col de Perjuret on Mont Aigoual in the Massif Central, attempting to keep pace with race leader Gastone Nencini. He struck a roadside guard block and plunged 20 meters into a ravine, landing in thick brush and breaking two vertebrae. The injury left him permanently paralyzed and confined to a wheelchair, ending his cycling career.
