This dynamic Campagnolo poster captures Miguel Indurain at full speed on his radical Pinarello Espada during his 1994 hour record-breaking ride of 53.040 km in Bordeaux. Dressed head to toe in the Banesto team colors, Indurain is locked in his trademark time trial position, riding the carbon fibre Espada with its matching Campagnolo disc wheels and bold red, yellow, and blue graphics. The first version of the Espada was designed for the hour record and built in collaboration with F1 aerodynamic specialists Ing. Giacchi; it became iconic for its sculpted one-piece frame and disc wheels.
Miguel Indurain was a spectacular force on a bicycle, spending 60 days in the Yellow Jersey during his Tour de France career. From 1991 to 1995, he won five consecutive Tours de France, making him the fourth rider in history to win five Tours—and the only one to do so consecutively. He also claimed back-to-back victories at the Giro d’Italia in 1992 and 1993, becoming one of only seven riders to complete the Giro–Tour double in the same season. Indurain holds the record for the most consecutive Tour wins, and shares the all-time win record (five) with Jacques Anquetil, Bernard Hinault, and Eddy Merckx.
Indurain’s extraordinary physiology and calm dominance earned him the nickname “Big Mig.” Standing 1.88 meters (6 ft 2 in) tall and weighing 80 kilograms (176 lb), he defied expectations in the high mountains and was unmatched in time trials. His talent was clear from a young age: at 18, he became the youngest rider to win the Spanish amateur national road championship; at 20, he led the Vuelta a España and won a stage of the Tour de l’Avenir, signaling the rise of one of cycling’s most iconic champions.
This poster celebrates the partnership between a dominant stage-race champion, his futuristic Pinarello, and Campagnolo’s cutting-edge time-trial technology. The rich colors, trackside blur, and close framing make it a striking addition to any cycling collection.
This poster has been archivally and professionally linen-backed.
Virtually all original vintage posters of this era were viewed as temporary advertising and were printed on very thin paper. While expensive, linen backing is a conservation method used to mount, stabilize, preserve, and protect vintage posters, allowing them to be displayed or framed without compromising their value.
This poster is an original first printing, not a reproduction.
