Original Vintage Poster – Signed by Eddy Merckx

Powerful black and white photographic poster showing Eddy Merckx dominating the road during the 1970 Tour de France. Merckx is captured alone, head down and on the drops, driving his Faema-era machine in a full-gas solo effort on a time trial stage. Close behind him runs a Peugeot support car with a large “MERCKX” name plate across the front, surrounded by race officials and photographers on motorbikes and in follow cars. Across the lower part of the image, this example is hand-signed by Eddy Merckx in dark ink.

The caption in the margin identifies the scene as the 1970 Tour de France, the 57th edition of the race. That year’s Tour ran from 27 June to 19 July, covered about 4,254 kilometres over 23 stages and a prologue, and was won overall by Merckx. Riding for the Faema squad, he finished more than three minutes ahead of Joop Zoetemelk in the general classification and also took the mountains classification and the combination classification, underlining the all-round dominance that earned him the nickname “The Cannibal.”

Over his career, Merckx amassed an unprecedented 525 victories across road and track, including five Tours de France, five Giro d’Italia, and one Vuelta a España, which is why he is still widely regarded as the greatest cyclist of all time.

Printed by Intersport Posters in England and carrying clear credits in the lower margin, this piece combines an iconic race image, period typography, and a bold Eddy Merckx autograph. It is an outstanding piece for any cycling collection.
