Charles-Louis Vanden Born was a seven-time champion of Belgium in the Vitesse over his long career.  He also won a Bronze Medal at the European Championships in 1907 and at the World Track Championships in 1908. He was a bike professional rider from 1897 to 1910 and from 1914 to 1916. He was also a well know automobile racer of the time.

Vanden Born was also an early aviation pioneer, he became one of the earliest licensed pilots earning his license in March of 1910 (only the 6th Belgian to do so). His flying career included flight demonstrations in Italy,  Nice, Vietnam, and then in Thailand and China. He was the first aviator to land in Bangkok, Hong Kong, and Canton. During WWI he directed the Belgian aviation school in France. After the war, he returned to Indochina to support the construction of the Saigon Airport.
