Bernard Hinault, Stage 17, 1981 Tour de France, Original Vintage Press Photo

$24.95

Stage 17 was a 140 km mountain stage from Morzine to the legendary Alpe d’Huez. This fantastic image captures Hinault leading the charge up the mountain as the crowd goes wild.  Bernard Hinault is followed by stage winner Peter Winnen, Joop Zoetemelk (Raleigh Jersey – only head is visible), Lucien Didier (137), Alberto Fernandez (Teka), Robert Alban (51), and Marino Lejarreta (91). (listed front to back)

Bernard Hinault dominated the 1981 Tour de France. He took the lead on Stage 6 and increased in nearly every day.  Only Phil Anderson was able to stay anywhere close to Hinault, but he was only able to hang on until Stage 16 losing 7 minutes on the stage to the clear leader.
