Aitor González Jiménez rode for the Kelme-Costa Blanca team from 1999-2002. González dramatically won the 2002 Vuelta on the last day of racing along with winning stages 8, 10, and 21 along the way. He was never leading the competition for the White Jersey during the 2002 Vuelta but had the honor of wearing the jersey for several days since the leader of the Combination Category was also leading the race.
The White Jersey, or Combination Classification, is of the primary awards in the Vuelta a España. This classification is calculated by adding the numeral ranks of each cyclist in the general, points, and mountains classifications (a rider must have had a score in all classifications possible to qualify for the combination classification), with the lowest cumulative total signifying the leader of this competition.
