Aitor Gonzalez, winner of the 2002 Vuelta a España, wore the white jersey during stage 17.  Roberto Heras was leading both the overall and combination categories on Stage 17.  So the second place in the combination, Aitor Gonzalez wore the white on that day.

Gonzalez won the 2002 Vuelta with Kelme after attacking his teammate, Oscar Sevilla, on who was leading the race. He won the  2005 Tour de Suisse, three stages of the 2002 Vuelta a España, two of the 2002 Giro d’Italia. one at the 2003 Giro and one at the 2004 Tour de France. He retired in 2006.
