The 2009 UCI Road World Championships, held in Mendrisio, Switzerland from September 23 to 27, showcased remarkable performances across various categories. In the Men’s Elite Road Race, Australia’s Cadel Evans secured a historic victory, becoming the first Australian to win the world road race title. He completed the 262.2 km course in 6 hours, 56 minutes, and 26 seconds, launching a decisive attack on the final climb to finish 27 seconds ahead of Russia’s Alexandr Kolobnev, with Spain’s Joaquim Rodríguez taking bronze.

In the Men’s Time Trial, Switzerland’s Fabian Cancellara dominated the 49.8 km course, claiming his third world title with a time of 57 minutes and 55.74 seconds. Gustav Larsson of Sweden took silver, and Germany’s Tony Martin earned the bronze.

In the Women’s Elite Road Race, Italy’s Tatiana Guderzo claimed the gold medal with a solo attack, finishing the 124.2 km race in 3 hours, 33 minutes, and 25 seconds. She was followed by Marianne Vos of the Netherlands, who took silver, and fellow Italian Noemi Cantele, who earned bronze.

The Women’s Time Trial saw American Kristin Armstrong repeat her 2006 victory, winning gold with a time of 35 minutes and 26.09 seconds over the 26.8 km course. Noemi Cantele secured silver, while Denmark’s Linda Melanie Villumsen took bronze.

In the Men’s Under-23 Road Race, France’s Romain Sicard emerged victorious, completing the 179.4 km course in 4 hours, 41 minutes, and 54 seconds. Colombia’s Carlos Betancur and Russia’s Egor Silin rounded out the podium.
