2003 Tour de France – 100th Anniversary – 1 oz Gold Bullion Coin – Legal Tender

To celebrate the 100th year of the Tour de France, a series of special legal tender coins were issued by the France’s National Mint in varying denominations, produced in either silver or gold. The 1 ounce gold coin was the pinnacle of the series in an edition of 5,000 and remains the rarest of Tour de France coins ever issued.

This ensemble includes the original box, certificate card, case, and of course the 1 ounce coin. The coin has been housed the past 18 years in its capsule and remains in proof condition. Value priced at roughly spot + $100.

The coin is beautifully designed and depicts on the observe two racing riders sharing the same passion and the same bike.  The 1903 pioneer appears in the reflection of his 2003 successor.
