1997 Tour de France, Campagnolo Promotional Poster Featuring Race Winner Jan Ulrich

$300.00

Bravo Ullrich!

This vibrant Campagnolo poster celebrates Jan Ullrich’s dominant victory in the 1997 Tour de France. The image captures Ullrich in full flight in the maillot jaune for Team Deutsche Telekom, tucked low over his pink Pinarello, riding Campagnolo-equipped wheels and components. The blurred background heightens the sense of speed. At the same time, the layout frames him with bold typography: “Tour de France 1997” down the left, “Bravo Ullrich!” across the top, and the yellow Campagnolo script with the Italian tagline “Tecnologia ed emozione” (Technology & Emotion) across the bike.

The 1997 Tour, the 84th edition of the race, ran from 5 to 27 July over 21 stages plus a prologue and about 3,950 kilometers. Ullrich won the general classification in 100 hours 30 minutes 35 seconds, finishing 9 minutes 9 seconds ahead of Richard Virenque, with Marco Pantani third, the largest winning margin since 1984. He also took the young rider classification, while his Telekom teammate Erik Zabel won the points classification and Virenque claimed both the mountains and combativity awards; Team Deutsche Telekom topped the team classification.

Born in 1973, Jan Ullrich is a German former professional road racer and remains Germany’s only Tour de France champion. He announced himself by finishing second and winning the best young rider classification at the 1996 Tour, then returned to take overall victory in 1997. Away from the Tour he won the 1999 Vuelta a España, and at the 2000 Sydney Olympics he earned road race gold and time trial silver.  This poster folds that landmark Tour win into Campagnolo’s brand story, making it a perfect piece for fans of grand tour history, 1990s racing, or Campagnolo memorabilia.

This poster has been archivally and professionally linen-backed.

Virtually all original vintage posters of this era were viewed as temporary advertising and were printed on very thin paper. While expensive, linen backing is a conservation method used to mount, stabilize, preserve, and protect vintage posters so they can be displayed or framed without compromising value.

This poster is an original first printing, not a reproduction.
