1995 World Cycling Championships
Campeonato Mundial de Ciclismo – Bogota & Duitama, Columbia
Columbus Ante el Mundo – Colombia Before the World
The blurred image on this poster advertising both the Road and Track World Championships vividly captures the high-speed action of cycling. The racing took place from September 26th to October 8th of 1995.
Abraham Olano of Spain won the Gold Medal in the Men’s Road Race, with Miguel Indurain and Marco Pantani taking the Silver and Bronze. In the Men’s Time Trial, Miguel Indurain was the victor, with Olano in second place and Uwe Peschel in third. Jeannie Longo of France won a remarkable double victory, winning the Women’s Road Race and the Women’s Individual Time Trial.
The track events were held from September 26th to 30th. Twelve events were contested, eight for the men and four for the women at the Velódromo Luis Carlos Galán. Three events were held at the World Championships for the first time: Men’s Team Sprint (Women’s Team Sprint followed in 2007), Men’s Madison, and Women’s 500 m time trial. They replaced the Men’s Tandem and Men’s Stayers events.
This poster has been archivally and professionally linen-backed. Virtually all original vintage posters of this era were viewed as temporary advertising and were printed on very thin paper. While expensive, linen backing is a conservation method used to mount, stabilize, preserve, and protect vintage posters so they can be displayed or framed without compromising value.
This poster is an original first printing, not a reproduction.
