Campeonatos del Mundo de Ciclismo 1992
1992 World Cycling Championships

Original official poster for the 1992 UCI Cycling World Championships hosted by the Comunidad Valenciana in Spain, with the road events in Benidorm and the track events in nearby Valencia.

The design has a bold early-1990s look. The upper section is black, overlaid with thin blue and yellow horizontal stripes. In this field, the title appears in two languages: Championnats du Monde de Cyclisme 1992 / Campeonatos del Mundo de Ciclismo 1992. A prominent stylised yellow figure of a cyclist sweeps through the center above two blue ovals showing simplified world maps, underscoring the global nature of the championships. The UCI emblem sits at upper left, and the dates 30/8/92 – 6/9/92 run along the lower edge of the black band.

The white lower panel bears the text “Comunidad Valenciana – Valencia · Benidorm – España,” along with the crests of the Real Federación Española de Ciclismo (RFEC) and the regional organizing committee. At the bottom right is a small course map showing the Benidorm road circuit from Finestrat to Benidorm. At the same time, the familiar five UCI rainbow stripes appear centered along the lower edge.

The championships themselves were unusual because 1992 was an Olympic year. The road worlds in Benidorm consisted of only two events: the professional men’s road race and the women’s 50 km team time trial. On 6 September 1992, Italian star Gianni Bugno won the men’s 261 km road race ahead of Laurent Jalabert of France and Dimitri Konyshev of Russia. The day before, the United States team of Bunki Bankaitis-Davis, Jan Bolland, Jeanne Golay, and Eve Stephenson took gold in the women’s team time trial, with France second and the Unified Team / Russia third.

With its bilingual typography, world-map imagery, and direct link to Bugno’s second world title and the American women’s TTT victory, this poster is a strong piece of early-1990s championship design and an excellent addition to any cycling collection.

This poster has been archivally and professionally linen-backed.

Virtually all original vintage posters of this era were viewed as temporary advertising and were printed on very thin paper. While expensive, linen backing is a conservation method used to mount, stabilize, preserve, and protect vintage posters so they can be displayed or framed without compromising value.

This poster is an original first printing, not a reproduction.
