1986 Niedersachsen Rundfahrt Commemorative Cycling Medal
This vintage medal commemorates participation in the 10th Internationale Niedersachsen Rundfahrt der Radamateure, a prestigious multi-stage amateur cycling race held in Lower Saxony, Germany, from April 10th to 21st, 1986. Covering approximately 1,500 kilometers, the race wound through cities like Goslar, Lingen, Hannover, Münster, Wolfsburg, and more, as detailed on the front of the medal in an engraved route map. The medal honors successful completion of the race and features the inscription “Für erfolgreiche Teilnahme 1986” (“For successful participation 1986”) on the clasp.
The piece includes its original multicolor-striped ribbon, reminiscent of international cycling events, and is a fine example of 1980s European amateur cycling memorabilia. This particular edition was won by Sergei Uslamin of the Soviet Union, with Mario Hernig of Germany in second and Dshamolidin Abduschaparov also from the Soviet Union in third. The Soviet Union won the team competition.
