This authentic 1981 Tour de l’Avenir Podium Pennant was awarded daily to the rider leading the General Classification.

The 1981 Tour de l’Avenir was won by French rider Pascal Simon of the Peugeot-Esso-MIchelin Team.

The Tour de l’Avenir was founded in 1961 to attract teams from nations that had no professional riders to enter the Tour de France. Until 1967 the race was held earlier in the day, but on the same course at the Tour de France.  In 1968 the race was moved to September and since 2007 has been for riders 23 and younger.
