1975 World Cycling Championships
Championnats du Monde de Cyclisme 1975

Original official poster for the 1975 UCI Road and Track World Championships, held in Belgium and organized by the L.V.B. (Belgian Cycling Federation) under the authority of the UCI. This striking design advertises the full schedule of events across three iconic Belgian venues: Liège for track racing, Mettet for the amateur team time trial and women’s road race, and Yvoir for the professional road race.

This championship was highlighted by Hennie Kuiper’s dramatic victory in the Men’s Road Race, capturing the world title for the Netherlands. In the Women’s Road Race, Tineke Fopma of the Netherlands claimed the gold medal. Poland took the Gold Medal in the Team Time Trial and Andre Gevers won the Amateur Road Race.

The minimalist yet bold illustration features a stylized cyclist in motion, overlaid on the rainbow stripes of the UCI World Champion’s jersey—blue, red, black, yellow, and green—rendered here in horizontal bands across the poster. It’s a great piece of 1970s sports graphic design that evokes both precision and speed.

Track events were held August 20–25 at the F.C. Liégeois Velodrome.
Road events took place August 27–31, concluding with the professional men’s race on August 31 in Yvoir.

This poster has been archivally and professionally linen-backed. Virtually all original vintage posters of this era were viewed as temporary advertising and were printed on very thin paper. While expensive, linen backing is a conservation method used to mount, stabilize, preserve, and protect vintage posters so they can be displayed or framed without compromising value.

This poster is an original first printing, not a reproduction.

The race was held under challenging conditions, with rain making the roads slippery and adding to the difficulty of the course, which featured 21 ascents of a 3-kilometer climb over a 266 km distance. Kuiper’s triumph was particularly significant as it came against a strong Belgian team on their home turf, making his solo victory a memorable and dramatic moment in cycling history.
