1974 World Cycling Championships
Championnats du Monde de Cyclisme 1974
This poster is a graphic beauty. It is minimalist and modern, featuring the clean, bold lines of 1970s design.
The 1974 Worlds were held on August 25th in Montreal. Eddy Merckx won gold in the Men’s road Race, Raymond Poulidor took Silver, and Mariano Martinez took Bronze. Janusz Kowalski of Poland won the amateur road race, with Ryszard Szurkowski and Michel Kuhn filling out the podium. The Swedish team was awarded Team Time Trial Gold, and Genevieve Gambillon of France won the women’s gold.
This poster has been archivally and professionally linen-backed. Virtually all original vintage posters of this era were viewed as temporary advertising and were printed on very thin paper. While expensive, linen backing is a conservation method used to mount, stabilize, preserve, and protect vintage posters so they can be displayed or framed without compromising value.
This poster is an original first printing, not a reproduction.
