1955 Giro d’Italia Totosport Complete Postal Card Set of 21

$269.00

A fantastic complete set of Totosport postal cards from the 1955 Giro d’Italia.  The mid-century graphics are wonderful and the colors are bright and bold.  Each card features the same image on the front and on the back a cancellation from a different stage of the 1955 Giro.

The 1955 Giro started off in Milan on 14 May with a 163 km (101.3 mi) flat stage and concluded back in Milan with a 141 km (87.6 mi) relatively flat mass-start stage on 5 June. Fourteen teams entered the race, which was won by Italian Fiorenzo Magni of the Nivea-Fuchs team. Second and third respectively were Italian riders Fausto Copi and Gastone Nencini.

In the 20th stage, when race leader Nencini suffered a puncture, Magni and Coppi saw an opportunity and attacked Nencini.  Coppi won the stage (his last victory in the Giro) and Magni took the overall lead.  Magni went on to win the 1955 Giro with Nencini winning the mountain classification.
