Daniel Rebour - Original Art

Daniel Rebour was a master of technical drawings of bicycles, their parts, and accessories. His thousands of drawings are scattered throughout old magazines, catalogs, and other publications. From 1945 until the early 1980s, he created hundreds of meticulous, intricate drawings. Rebour’s drawings captured components and bicycles better than photographs could. He turned the most ordinary bicycle component into a work of art.

Rebour, born in Le Havre around 1908, honed his skills in technical illustration in Paris, graduating in 1928. His career took off when he found work as a test rider and illustrator for a motorcycling magazine. During the Second World War, he illustrated car parts catalogs. Post-war, he was invited by a friend to join a new magazine, Le Cycle, as an illustrator and technical editor. The magazine, which started in September 1945, continued until the last issue was published in December 1975.

Rebour’s detailed drawings, a testament to his mastery, continued to grace catalogs, including those produced for André Bertin, Rene Herse, and the VAR tool company. Rebour’s influence extended far beyond his active years; he retired in the 1980s, leaving behind a legacy that continues to inspire. He passed away in 1991, but his drawings remain a testament to his immense skill and passion. (Sources: PezCyclingsNews.com & ReneHerseCycles.com)
