1993 Tour de France – Extremely Large Medal – RARE ITEM

$390.00

This bronze medal is simply stunning if nothing for than its sheer size and weight.  Tipping the scales at nearly 2 pounds, it is by far the largest medal we have seen issued in conjunction with the Tour de France. Created in 1993 by Monnaie de Paris, the world’s oldest minting institution, the medal celebrates the then 90-year-old history of the Tour.

The back of the medal has a wonderful feature displaying the names of each Tour winner along with a star to highlight the number of each rider’s overall victories.  Looking closely, the name of Miguel Indurain is shown with two stars.  By the end of the 1993 tour, another star would need to be added.  And by 1995, Indurain had joined the elite group of Eddy Merckx, Bernard Hinault and Jacques Anquetil as a five-time winner.

Medal includes original box.
